Case #2: Blueprint Problems.

Assignments:

  1. Script the phone call you will make to John Alspaugh in order to solve immediate problems.
Enumerate the points you plan to make.
Briefly explain the tone you will take and the psychology behind it.
[Assume you did this.  See the next page: the phone log solution.  You should, however, think about the tone you will take with Alspaugh, because you will want it to match the tone you take in the letter that you will write.]
  2. Write a letter that documents your phone call and gives instructions about what you want AJV to do about all the problems.
Write to: John Alspaugh, Principal for Commercial Facilities, Alspaugh, Joradan, and Vineski Associates, 201 Greenwood, Westwood, CA 90000.
Your firm's address is: Treadwell Developers, Inc., 3400 Desert View Drive, Westwood, CA 90001.
Use the decimal outline format to enumerate points.  Be thorough.
Your letter must recognize the obvious constraints:

We will again rely on collaborative writing.  We need teams to write these components of the letter:

Simply presenting the historical facts and specifying more procedures will not adequately solve the problem.  You previously told Alspaugh what to do and he failed to do it.   The solution requires at least as much psychology as it does engineering or architectural facts.  The opening paragraph and the next to the last paragraph of the case data imply a strategy you probably will wish to use.
