Case #2: Blueprint
Problems.
Assignments:
- You are the "Assistant Project Manager"
- You do not have the authority to threaten to dismiss Alspaugh or to threaten to sue his firm for noncompliance
- AJV is "an architectural firm regularly employed by Treadwell Developers"
- "You have to admit that Alspaugh's got real talent"
- Alspaugh has repeatedly failed to respond to your direct requests or commands.
We will again rely on collaborative writing. We need teams to write these components of the letter:
- Format: letterhead, address, introduction, & closing. This team chooses the rhetorical strategy for the letter.
- Immediate problems
- Drawing specifications
- Delivery specifications
Simply presenting the historical facts and specifying more procedures will not adequately solve the problem. You previously told Alspaugh what to do and he failed to do it. The solution requires at least as much psychology as it does engineering or architectural facts. The opening paragraph and the next to the last paragraph of the case data imply a strategy you probably will wish to use.
